Default No sound. 10.6.2. 10V. I want to die. - 12-11-2009, 08:56 PM

I've done about 10 different installs, and this issue has never happened.

Everything works... sleep, wifi, etc... but, no sound at all. The icon in the menu bar is grayed out.

I've reinstalled RC4.
UpdateExtra'd.
Tried installing Voodoo.
Replaced AppleHDA with the original from another machine.
Erased the Extra folder completely and reinstalled RC4.
Repaired permissions.

Any further ideas?

Have you verified it's not a hardware problem? Boot a Linux CD or something like that?

Ignore this. I was also looking at some other posts & possible fixes and got my addled brain all confused: thought I was replying to a wi-fi issue.

Still, might be a good idea to install the latest wi-fi fix

I know it isn't hardware... this was a direct result of updating to 10.6.2.

I installed NBI right in the OS - not in safe mode.

I'll try updating airport.

Is the speaker icon always greyed out? Or is it only happening after putting the box to sleep? I've got my Mini9 working with sound, just not after sleep.

Followed the steps here:
Sound and mic working with AppleHDA

It is grayed out and this has nothing to do with sleep. It just doesn't work

Have you run an older version of NBI and selected only generate dsdt.aml? The RC 4 version doesn't create one. I would try NBI .8.2 Final, then re run NBI RC 4, install mini extensions.

Hmm... I haven't. Will .8.2 Final work with 10.6.2?

You only want to generate the dsdt.aml, not load the boot loader, or anything else.

Un-check everything else, and run the NBI .8.3 RC 4 immediately afterward, without re booting between them.

I'll try it.

Until then, the coworker who owns this 10V will have to watch Curb Your Enthusiasm in silence for the rest of the weekend.
