My experiences with XP and Ubuntu in VirtualBox 3.1 also are good. It is responsive enough to get some light work done, without having to reboot into another OS.
I have done the multi-boot thing, with XP, Ubuntu and Leopard. I must say that I now much prefer to :
- boot into XP and Ubuntu from VirtualBox on my Mini10v if I need to for a short time, and
- save the multiple partitions for
Leopard (main partition)
Leopard (rescue partition - cloned with CCC, minus any bulky user dir files)
Leopard-or-SnowLeopard (a guinea pig/test partition, for testing tweaks )
Snow Leopard 10.6.6

Version 3.1 was recently released and I have found it runs a bit faster than 3.0.

VirtualBox has worked well for me elsewhere, but I have to admit the thought of a VM on my mini9 causes me to wince in pain.
