Used a Lenovo usb dvd with 10v to install Netbook CD 0.8.3 RC with SL 10.6 and then the 10.6.1 upgrade. Plaudits due to mechdrew's guide
Only current issue is that the OS X DVD software player does not like the Lenovo dvd hardware player The Lenovo DVD drive software is Windoze only , it is a bit pants because I would like to play DVD films while out on my travels; get this error......
"There was an initialization error
A valid dvd drive could not be found. [-70012]"
Any solutions/ideas gratefully accepted

If you search/google you can find hacks that change the string "Internal" to "External" that will make it work when an external drive is connected.
I've never much like that player anyway. I use VLC even on my MacBook and that will work fine in your scenario.

While it cost $20 (and I have not purchased it yet), I really like Ripit, too. You can try a download and use it for n times before you buy. It seems to rip about everything, and the interface is really nice. FWIW
