Default Sound Preferences making me Crazy - 11-05-2009, 05:52 PM

Good start for a mental health guy, huh?

Would someone PLEASE look in your Sound Preferences under both Output and Input and tell me what you see under "type"? For Input, I get Name=InternalMic; Type=Built-in."

For Output, I get Name=IntSpeakers; Type=DevShortNameOut.

My Output type seems to shift as I upgrade 10.5.x toward the latest version(s). My Output was not affected until after 10.5.6, and I wonder if it is something that I'm doing wrong, or is this just the way it looks on a DM-9 when installed.

All I'm asking is that someone take a look and report back to me what your DM-9 says. The DM-10 is fine, so don't need a report there.

I have the same problem. I have a mini 9 and a mini 10. I used NBI 0.8.3 RC3 on both and they are on 10.5.8. This strange problem occurs only on my mini 9. When I was using DellEFI some months ago, I didn't have this problem.

Someone mentioned in another thread that this had something to do with the missing AppleHDA.kext in /System/Library/Extensions. I see this file on my mini 10 but not on my mini 9. But I can't find the original message.

Update
I just manually copied AppleHDA.ktext from DellEFI to my Extensions folder and reran NBI with only the generate the system specific ... file option selected. This fixed the audio device names and also the missing sound problem after waking up from sleep.

Great call on that one. I bet you and I have lots of company with this issue. I may try NBI again and use your fix. Thanks.

It could have been a mishap with the audio drivers in the latest NetbookInstaller, I remember that the Mini 9 used to need a custom AppleHDA to get audio working. You should probably submit an issue report about the problem to meklort at netbook-installer - Project Hosting on Google Code

Will do that; this could be a brain-exploder for noobie installers. Needs a little fix. I'll put it on the issue report to meklort. Thanks, and good eye, secondito!
