Default Question on Larger Dell with MAC OSX, not Mini 9 or 10 - 10-15-2009, 12:27 AM

Ok, so I have 2 Mini 9's and I am looking to get a larger system than a 10 or the 9. Does anyone know if any of the other Dells will run as well as the Mini 9 or 10? Looking for 12" or 13". I want something that is a flawless as the Mini 9 or 10. It doesn't have to even be a Dell. Just wanting some actual facts from people using other systems. I have an HP DV9700 currently running 10.5.8, and dual booted with Vista. I also have a MBPro 2.8 15". I am just looking for something in between and want it to run better than the HP does, now wireless, no sleep.

Thanks

I was curious about this on the ride home on the train.

-What rigging is supported by Apple OSX?
-What will that rigging cost me?
-Is the cost savings worth not buying a MBP or G5 or beyond?
-What would I be replacing with a high-end Hackintosh?

Once one has a full OSX install with working BootCamp or Parallels, dual-booting wouldn't really be much of a 'hack'.

Your best bet for information is either InsanelyMac, Hackint0sh.org, or InfiniteMac, since these forums are dedicated only to the Dell Mini line.

As a general rule, compatible hardware is as simple as looking at the specifications for an Apple Mac. That's why the Minis are so compatible, they use the GMA 950 graphics card that was used in the early Mac Mini/Macbook lines. Also, Intel processors are a must for "vanilla" installs because AMD processors need special kexts, kernels, and such. However, you are unlikely to find another computer hardware set that has as good of drivers as we do here.

Thanks for the input. I am a regular reader of all of those sites. I was really looking to see if anyone had a Dell besides the 9 or 10 that worked as well.

I have a Hackintosh rig already and was looking for a more stable one. I just thought this would be a good place to ask in this forum. I am sure that others, like myself, have Hackintosh systems, and wanted a general opinion from the group.

I had a Dell XPS 420 that worked pretty flawlessly once I fixed the sound issues. Since than sold it and got a 24" iMac.
