Anyone know how to change the boot logo. All I really want to do is change the apple logo above the pinwheel to a hackintosh logo. Theres an old thread on how to do it, but its for Dellefi, I tried what was suggested but that didnt work. Ive edited the boot.png in the extra/theme/default folder to the hackintosh logo. But its still the same old apple logo when it boots. Do I need to edit the theme.plist? If so what do I change? Any help is much appreciated. If it matters I am using NBI 8.3 RC3 on a dell mini 10v with SL 10.6.1

The logo file is found in /Extra/Themes/Default appropriately named logo.png. One thing to keep in mind is that the theme images need to be "squished" because Chameleon stretches the pictures on our widescreen displays. When creating your image make sure to have a transparent background (otherwise known as an alpha channel) and create your image initially at 128x128 pixels, then after you have your image created scale it down to 100x128 (widthxheight) so the appropriate aspect ration will appear on the boot screen.

One last note: The logo appears at the top of the Chameleon bootloader when selecting a volume to boot from. If you are looking to change the Apple logo that appears in the middle of the screen while loading Mac OS, you need to modify the boot.png file. It's dimensions during editing should be 96x96 , and squished down to 75x96. I've modified my own boot.png file to reflect my profile picture.

Thanks guys for all the help. I went to the theme website and tried to replace my theme entirely with one of the hackintosh theme. No dice. I also tried just replacing one of the icons. Also no dice. I think I am just going to try and make one from scratch with the instructions on the theme website and the help from mechdrew.

To replace the theme:
cd /Extra/Themes
sudo mv Default Default.bak
sudo cp -R -P whever-you-have-the-new-theme/newtheme Default

You're all set. You'll want to check that the files and directory are
root:wheel rwxr-xr-x

Hmm I will give that a try, although I am not exactly comfortable with terminal. I guess I will have to learn sooner or later. Thanks bsoplinger1

did you try the themes in the bootloader link i posted?
no need for terminal with that approach, plus you can see how it works
then you can proceed with the other themes that you are interested in

I did try that thread elq, with no luck. I tried downloading his theme and many others with just renaming the folder Default. I dont know if it makes a difference but I have a mini 10 and the poster of that thread has a mini 9. Anyhow I am gonna try using the terminal commands. I have to learn some how.

are you set up as an admin on the 10v?
walk thru the steps with the default folder approach
so we can see what went wrong

i'm also interested to know what happens when you reboot the machine
