Hey Mechdrew and others,

Ive got the pinwheel of death after trying to install Leopard 10.5
Ive tried using both the org 10.5 disc and an iso on a flash drive.

Both tries I get the pinwheel.

Environment:
Mini 9, 1GB RAM, SSD 8GB
Leopard retail dvd 10.5
NetbookCD 1.0 Final

BIOS: A05
USB BIOS Legacy Support: Enabled
USB Wake from Sleep: Disabled

Any help would be great.

Is it a 10.5.0 disc? It should say on the disc somewhere. You should also check for scratches on the disc. I've had the pinwheel a few times on my original Leopard disc since it has been scratched/scuffed a few times and the laser can't read it properly. (This could also affect your ISO on the flash drive if it was copied after the scratches.)


Concerning everyone, it seems the 1.0 Final version of the Snow Leopard NCD is officially busted, so I will have to create a new one. The Snow Leopard NCD 1.1 should be out later this week, and potentially a Leopard 1.1 if NetbookInstaller is updated before then. Until that time you should use the Delta version (linked in an earlier post) if you are installing Snow Leopard.

I'm running into the same problem. Typically how long should the pinwheel spin on a normal install? ie: one that works?

Mini 10v 2GB Ram, 120GB HDD
Leopard 10.5.1 Retail DVD

I got my Mini9 in the mail today (ebay is your friend) and quickly tried v1.0 with a SL retail disk...unfortunately ran into the same problem as others are having. Cant wait to try the older beta since that seems to be the solution

I'm also getting a kernel panic with the CD for Snow Leopard v1.0

using samsung usb dvdrw drive

Leopard 10.6 retail

will go test the "older version"
whats different about that one?

Yeah, I'm quite aware that it is broken.

I prepped the 1.0 version with a different Extensions.mkext (most likely the culprit) using the latest NetbookBootMaker. 1.0 also includes a theme that displays instructions on the bootloader itself. It also has some other tools included that weren't on older discs. But as you've noticed, it's broken and the older version will work just fine for now.

I am getting the EFBIOS errors on the final version and the old version of the NetbookCD.

I have a mini 10, A04 Bios. 2 gig ram, can't remember size of the HD but it is normal HD, not a SSD and using a new SL install dvd.

Any idea's? Could it be my dvd drive? I know the final version is broke but I am having the same problems on the older iso.

thanks for the info. the older 1.0d CD isnt working for me either. it doesnt kernel panic but it doesnt boot the disc either. i left it for 15 or 20 minutes and it never got past the grey screen. (for snow leopard)

likewise, using the 1.0 final Leopard (not snow) Netboot CD with 10.5.6 retail doesnt fully work either. it technically works i suppose, i get to the background and the spinny color cursor, however its running at maybe 1 frame every 4 seconds (ie. excruciatingly slow). switching back to the efi boot 8.02b1 disc works fine (always used it in the past, works good)

I have now "fixed" the Snow Leopard NCD. Before I update the other info can someone please confirm it works?

Also, I have added the guide to the CD, along with relevant information, so now it can be accessed from anywhere.
