Default Video Performance - 10-04-2009, 02:38 AM

Don't know if this is the right place to ask this question but...

I have tried mini 9 and mini 10v, with OSX 10.5.6, 10.5.8, 10.6, 10.6.1, linux, and window 7/XP. I'm using VLC player in all the cases.

My experiences are:
OSX(es) - GUI performance is excellent, video has skips
XP - very good performance in general, some lag on GUI, video plays nice will no skip
WIN7 - GUI performance is excellent, video plays nice will no skip
ubuntu 8.0.4/Linux - GUI feels like better than XP, but no OSX/WIN7 smooth, video plays nice with no skip

Is it just me who experience less than perfect video performance? I searched on the forum and google does not seem to have clear ways to improve this. Any info on why it feels choppier in terms of video on OSX?

Andy

I haven't seen much skipping on OS X except, of course, YouTube and such. I acutally watch DVD rips from VLC on my roadtrips and mp4 videos often. The only player I use is VLC, except those odd times that Quicktime comes up and I don't feel like switching.

Try different video output settings. The page I linked to isn't very helpful, but it'll give you an idea of what you're looking for.

I don't use OSX, but from what I've read, Quartz and/or Quartz Extreme should be options. If there's something labeled "overlay", that's worth a try too.
