Default Quicktime X Player - 09-12-2009, 10:11 AM

Hello team,

I'm running 10.6.1 on Mini9, has anyone noticed any issues with the new QuickTime X Player?

When I play a video such as an MPEG, after pressing play, it will play for a few seconds then video frame will freeze. Although the file is still playing, as the timer is still increasing.

I checked the activity monitor and CPU jumps to 100%, surely someone has noticed this?

Quicktime X need more power than Quicktime 7.
But Quicktime 7 is also slowly and freezimng when playing HD Video.

the performance of the Atom processor is not sufficient for such tasks.
The netbooks are good for Internet but "more or less" not for Video.

I understand that the chips lack power, but this is just basic video playing, not streaming video... This is not playing SD video... Can someone with a mini 9 test video with Quicktime X. I have repaired all permissions etc.

Actually, also, I'm on stock SSD.

So far, it has issues with MPG files...

I have installed Perian, and it is able to play AVI files ok and mov files ok.

I have installed Flip4Mac to play WMV, there is a beta for snow leopard. WMV files is not watchable and stuttering...

Overall, Quicktime X is looking like a disaster.

Only that you have an idea.:

I have a Apple MacMini 1.66 GHz Core Duo prozessor.
Which has much more performance as the Atom

I never had problems with my home videos (MPEG4, HD-720)

With Quicktime X they run slowly, stutter, stop and freeze.
Impossible to view.

So now, take a Netbook...

Quicktime X is an eyecatcher but for now BS.
Not to mention all the export capabilities Quicktime 7 has (pro).

Thanks whxde, it's good to know that the issue lies with QuickTime X.

I'm also getting a few issues where flash videos (web) don't play, I can see that the buffering is happening and video is getting downloaded, but the video doesn't play, this generally does not happen with all flash videos, but some, which must lead to encoding problem of sorts for Snow Leopard.

If you are truly disappointed with Quicktime X... then simply check the option to install Quicktime 7 in the OSX SL installer
