Default GMABooster app, where can I find it? - 09-02-2009, 04:31 AM

I just tested youtube for the first time with the mini under OS X, playback is completely unacceptable. It's no secret Adobe's flash has always been **** on OS X. But I wasn't expecting it to be this bad after having no problem with it under win7. But I'm getting off topic. I wanted GMAbooster to get that ever so tiny improvement in gfx. The problem is that the official site is not linking the dl anymore. Did anybody here dl it before it got taken down? If so can you upload it somewhere for me?

Edit: and as soon as I posted this playback has improved. I say I'm getting a solid 15fps on HQ and about 20fps under regular res (I was getting about 1-2fps before under HQ.) I'd still like to get that GMABooster.

Edit2: I just opened system preferences and it's back to 2fps. Even after I closed it.

Don't find it... it is worthless. Seriously.

Any other tips as far as improving flash playback? I can't think of anything else. I'm literally only running the browser and IRC. Maybe 10.6 will help. I hear that each tab on 64-bit Safari has it's own thread. Though I might be mistaken.

I guess I'll just go back to dreaming about a Dell mini running a 9400m like the macbooks.

Edit: what's the limit RAM available for the gpu? System profiler says it's using 64mb.

Edit2: I just googled it. It's 224mb. If I've maxed out the system RAM why isn't it using the max vRAM possible?

Leopard (and I'm assuming Snow Leopard) both cap the GMA950 at 64MB. I'm not sure where this cap is set, but I can't find anything on the internet about how to remove it. Meklort, since you've been digging through the code, have you seen anything?

That sucks, 64mb is nothing. I have a 6 year old laptop with that much in it. I hope that once all the wrinkles are ironed out of the 10.6 install someone can look into taking that cap off.

I spoke with Meklort regarding this issue... and, although this is possible, it is not practical. The reason this would not be very beneficial is because the bus speeds on the chipset would not allow for much more performance out of the added (allocated) RAM.

Using malloc, it is possible to allocate more ram for the GMA950... but the reward is not going to be very exciting. On top of that, there is no way to overclock the GMA950... (yet you are able to underclock it)

At any rate, we will just need to be content with what we have got... keeping in mind that we do own netbooks and they are not supposed to be in the same class as standard laptops. Graphics on the netbook chipsets are not meant to be stellar (until better hardware decoding/encoding/acceleration is added).

I've never tried linking to a posting here, hope this works:

Overclocking the GMA 950!

Only works on OS X vs the GMABooster app which is Win, Linux and OS X but its 100% free
