Default Command (Apple) {Windows} key? - 08-18-2009, 02:29 PM

I've got OSX running on my Mini-9 (BIOS A05, OSX 10.5.8, DellEFI 1.2a5, mini-9-stec-1058 sleep), but I'm having one problem:

The "Windows" key should(?) work as the "Apple/Command" key, but it doesn't. On my MacBook I can (say) hit Command/Space and call up Spotlight, on my Mini9 it does nothing.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

The windows key and alt key are swapped, I physically exchanged them on my Mini.

Have you gone to System Preferences -> Keyboard & Mouse -> Keyboard Shortcuts and verified it hasn't been changed or disabled (unchecked). Does other Command Functions still work such as Command-Tab to switch applications. Have tried to reboot. My Mac Mini occassionally get into a mode where spaces and keyboard shortcuts stop working. I retart and everything is back to normal.

You can also go into the keyboard pref pane and select other choices of swapped keys. For example since I use this mini on my sofa, holding it in my hands, its much easier to have the command key be in the corner so I chose to swap ctrl and command. But on my other mini which I tend to use in my computer room I prefer the keys where they are normally (command next to space, alt next to that) so I didn't change anything.

I'm surprised nobody else has posted this.

System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Modifier Keys.

You can change whatever to whatever there.
