Default Installing Updates - 08-12-2009, 03:12 PM

I was wondering if there is a set procedure for installing software updates, either manually or through Apple's software update procedure. From what I gather OS updates (i.e. 10.5.7 to 10.5.8) need to be installed manually. It would appear from the various Guides that a rerunning of DellEFI or NetbookInstaller is in order after installing the update. I'm not sure why, other than the OS Updates probably change the boot configuration and the rerunning of DellEFI or NetbookInstaller is necessary to reset the boot configuration.

With respect to Security updates, what's the recommended procedure?

I assume that updates to applications like iTunes can be installed through the softtware update process. Is this correct?
