Sleep works again with my 16GB Stec thanks to km99's kext fix. Hopefully it can be incorporated into newer versions of DellEFI/NetbookInstaller.

I applied the kext to both /Extra/MiniExt/ and /System/Library/Extensions, but still couldn't get sleep to work; any help?

I have stock 16GB PATA.

First of all, I am the guy who did the original work to support sleep on Mini 9.

The preinstalled SSDs of Mini 9 (made by STEC) have a problem that they fail to function after sleep and the workaround I implemented was to reset them on wake after sleep (other SSDs sold in aftermarket does not have the same problem). From what I understand, this is the same approach that is used in recent installers.

In OSX 10.5.8, the PATA driver was updated, and the old driver with aforementioned workaround no more seems to be working (at least not on my mini 9). So I have re-applied the fix to the driver bundled on 10.5.8, and they are working for me.

Did you use kext helper or run the Update program in /Extra?

Both will "refresh" the known kexts in your system so it recognizes the new kext.

Default another data point - sleep works for me - 08-12-2009, 11:43 PM

Just wanted to add another data point. I upgraded to 10.5.8 on my Mini 9 and sleep seems to be working fine. I updated using Software Update and reran DellEFI, checking off Reinstall Dell Mini 9 Extensions. I'm running on a 16 GB Runcore drive, DellEFI 1.2a5, BIOS A05 with USB Legacy turned off.

STEC is the manufacture of the SSD (Solid State Drive) used in your mini. Launch System Profiler and select ATA. It should say something like STEC PATA 16GB. If it starts with STEC then you have that drive. KEXT files are drivers and configuration for the hardware in your Mac. You need to change the drivers to support your Mini. To install KEXT files easily you can google for Kext Helper and you will find a free tool to download. All you have to do when you get that free tool is to drag the KEXT file into it, enter your system password and then select install. Reboot when it's done are you should be good to go. Hope this helps.

Still having issues with Sleep. I have a Mini 9 with a 16GB STEC SSD. My signature denotes the rest. I installed OS X originally using the Type 11 thumb drive using DellEFI1.1 with OSX 10.5.6 retail disk as a Live.DMG. I have since upgraded to 10.5.7. Moved from DellEFI1.1 to 1.2a5 to NetbookInstaller 0.82 rc2. I moved to the latest netbook installer since it natively support the two finger scrolling so I don't have to reinstall the Meklort drivers each time I do a restore. I have installed the 10.5.8 upgrade without error using the combo update and I've successfully installed the updated power KEXT which solves the battery charging issue and the Energy Saver Preference Pane. But for some reason installing the updated PATA Kext isn't working for me. When I select sleep from the menu or close the lid it does go to sleep. I can tell as the power light does it's normal flashing. Issue is when I open the lid it wakes and within a second the WiFi icon on the menubar goes away and the rest of the system becomes unresponsive. Yes, the Legacy USB support is disabled in Bios version A05. I used Kext Helper b7 to install the file. I verified that the cache was cleared. I went into the /System/Library/Extensions and verified the PATA Kext is the same size as the one I downloaded.

I see MANY people have been successful with the new PATA Kext update. Wondering if you have any hints or suggestions.

Thanks in advance for the assistance!

For the people that AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext not load or related issues go here for an good solution:

10.5.8 deep sleep problem? - InsanelyMac Forum

Or simply download this SleepEnabler.kext.zip but be sure you have a Disabler.kext or similar fix for prevent that AppleIntelCPU... loads at startup.

Hello - have a strange problem with sleep ;(

I have a Runcore SSD so I haven't installed the fix above for STEC drives.

I have a utility installed called sleepwatcher, which runs custom .sleep and .wakeup scripts - I've set .sleep to play a sound when run.

When I shut the lid after a cold reboot, sleep works fine: the sound plays and the pulsating power light starts, and when the lid is opened the mini 9 wakes from sleep fine.

The *second* time I close the lid, the sound plays but the power light is solid. When I open the lid, the power light pulsates and seems to be asleep! I have to press the power button, which wakes the mini 9.

When I select 'sleep' from the apple menu, the sound is played and the light is solid, when I close the lid, I get the pulsating power light. Wakes fine with lid.

With the power light solid, it runs hot, so I don't think it's quite asleep ;(

Suggestions?! Anyone have this problem?
