Thumbs up another 10.5.8 success story here... - 08-06-2009, 01:15 PM

...everything seems to be fine, woot!

Installed the 10.5.8 combo updater, was running 10.5.6 on my Mini 9. After the installer finished, I rebooted into safe mode and ran DellEFI to reinstall extensions and remove the custom file. Rebooted once more, regenerated the custom file, and rebooted one last time.

Everything's working, battery status, wifi, and bluetooth included!

Same battery issue here. Percent remaining displays correctly, but like others, I've lost the ability to have two different settings for power adapter and battery, computer thinks it's plugged in when it's not, and selecting Time reports "Battery is not charging".

Are you using percentage or "time remaining" for your battery indicator?

After all that the 10.5.8 update was a success: Wifi, BT on/off, Audio and 2-Finger Trackpad all working correctly.

* - if you are running 10.5.6 or below, use the Combo updater: Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update
When you ran DellEFI each time, did you do so in safe mode or did you boot as normal?

@jhk1976: Ran DellEFI after standard boot, I never used Safe mode for this update.

Upon completion there were no errors.

After boot I re-ran DellEFI1.2a5 and removed the custom dsdt.aml file.

I then ran it again and reinstalled Dell Mini 9 Extensions, Created custom dsdt.aml file, restored the 10.5.5 keyboard pref pane and 'fixed' bluetooth.

I rebooted.

I then reinstalled the meklort trackpad drivers, fixed the bluetooth on/off issue and reinstalled the aboutthismac.pkg.

I have tried using sleep from the menu, closing the lid or using Fn-1 and all have the issue.

I am experiencing this also. When it wakes from sleep, I get the spinning beach ball and I loose the wi-fi icon in the menu bar. Update :
Just tried it again (wake from sleep) and now the Finder is unresponsive, no wi-fi.

jlozier, is yours waking up correctly after sleep? Are you on 10.5.8?

BTW; Mine will go to sleep when I close the lid. Not waking up correctly though since the update.

Forgive my ignorance, what is your interpretation of a clean boot? Thanks.

In keeping with clarity, here are the steps I used to update to 10.5.8.

1) Updated using Combo 10.5.8 from a 10.5.7 stable system.
2) Restarted in safe boot and deleted dsdt.aml file, rebooted.
3) Ran DellEFI 1.2a5 and re-installed extensions and dsdt.aml file, rebooted.

Result : Lost proper battery behavior and wake from sleep causes a wi-fi / freeze problem.
