Wouldn't the PATA driver fix be cleaner?

Default How to apply patch - 08-12-2009, 02:41 AM

stashbox.org : free anonymous file hosting

First of all, I am the guy who did the original work to support sleep on Mini 9.

The preinstalled SSDs of Mini 9 (made by STEC) have a problem that they fail to function after sleep and the workaround I implemented was to reset them on wake after sleep (other SSDs sold in aftermarket does not have the same problem). From what I understand, this is the same approach that is used in recent installers.

In OSX 10.5.8, the PATA driver was updated, and the old driver with aforementioned workaround no more seems to be working (at least not on my mini 9). So I have re-applied the fix to the driver bundled on 10.5.8, and they are working for me."

Sleep now works on mine.
are there any instructions how to apply this patch - I'm kind of lost?

thanks

Talking 10.5.8 Update Working! - 08-12-2009, 03:31 AM

OK I've got a 99.9% Working OS X 10.5.8 Mini 9 now...(Not 100% because of the battery issues that everyone is having, but I can live with that)

Please be advised this was a CLEAN INSTALL.

After researching all of the posts in this thread I've reinstalled OS X 10.5.8 on my Mini 9.

I followed the DellEFI | mechdrew Method 1: Single USB Drive (Mac-only)

I used a Retail Copy of OS X 10.5.0 (yeah old huh?) and then followed ALL the steps to the letter up to Step 9...

At Step 9 I ran the Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update 759mb (10.5.x->10.5.7) not the 10.5.7 Combo Update.

*Now, the only problem I ran into during the install was the hang at the "3 Min Mark" during the Install Script, which seems to be common. At this point I had to power down using the power button.

After the cold boot,

I made sure USB Wake Support and USB BIOS Legacy Support was disabled in the BIOS (I do not have Bluetooth in my Mini 9 yet). Then booted to Safe Mode and continued following Step 10.

1st boot took about 45 seconds. After rerunning the DellEFI 1.2b5 and restarting one more time. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING was working, WiFi, Keyboard, Trackpad, Sound, SLEEP AND WAKE (on lid close and open).

Of course, I've still got the Battery Time Display issues everyone has.

I also did a SW update which apparently now includes Safari 4.0.3 (geeze again!?) iTunes, Quicktime, and a couple Airport Updates.

Holler back if you have any questions, I'm completely satisfied with this update procedure, I only use percentage on my battery icon anyway.

Black Dell Mini 9 (Radiosity Skinned)| OS X 10.5.8* | BIOS A05 | 32gb SuperTalent SSD | 2gb RAM | 1.3mp Webcam | Internal BT 2.1 (coming soon)

*Battery Time Indicator still not working

This seems to have fixed my problems. Drop it in your /Extra/Mini9Ext folder and then UpdateExtras.

happy to report, after 2 nights of frustrations and trial and errors, my mini9 is finally working almost perfectly. Sleep works (menu & lid), sound, wifi, webcam, except battery time .

My config: mini9, bios a05, 10.5.8 via software update, 32gb RunCore, 2gb RAM

This must be a new meaning of the word "perfectly."

Thinking of trying Dropbox? Use this referal link and we'll both get an extra 250MB of storage.

Default Sleep Issue - 08-12-2009, 04:50 AM

More info on my issue.

It will sleep and wake up.

But then NOTHING will launch. No Firefox, no Thunderbird, No Force Quit, no Shut Down.

So whatever the issue is here, it seems different than the other issue. It does sleep but basically it doesn't wake up. Only thing that works on wake-up is the touch pad.

As I stated before, I don't use sleep anyway so this is in no way a big deal to me.

The PATA fix only applies to the STEC it seems. I haven't fixed the safe sleep/hibernate issue yet on mine. Nor have I managed to fix the battery issue although there's a possible fix posted elsewhere Lets fix the not charging issue page 5

If you have the STEC you should drop in the fixed kext listed on the other page. It fixed my problem like yours....
