Default Apple Aperture on the Mini - 08-01-2009, 01:12 PM

Hi All,

Has anyone here used Aperture on their mini? If so, how was the performance? Obviously it won't be macbook pro speeds, but I have an early core-duo macbook and an early core-solo mac mini and they seem to run it ok - the difference between core-duo and core-solo isn't that noticeable.

I'm basically wondering if the Atom processor is up to handling raw files without grinding to a halt

Cheers

James

I used it on my Mini 9, but I can't remember if I used it with RAW files or not. I think I did, and it worked fairly well. I haven't tried installing it on my 10v yet though.

Hey,

Aperture use to work on Leopard 10.5.8, and since I updated to SL 10.6.1, my Aperture doesn't even want to load up and gives me an error. Anyone know a fix?

I may be mistaken, but there are some app compatibility problems with SL still. Aperture may be on the list. Might want to do a Google and check.

I find the performance of Aperture 2.1.4 on my Mini 9 to be slightly better than it was on my 1.25GHZ G4 ALU PowerBook (although for photo editing the Mini 9 LCD is much worse than the PowerBook.)

I did have to hack the installation script to get it to install, however; basically you have to remove the "hardware compatibility" check.

Make a writeable disk image of the Aperture 2 installation CD, mount it and navigate to /Volumes/Aperture/Aperture.mpkg/Contents. Then edit the Aperture.dist installer script file to add a "return true;" statement as the first line of the function installationCheck() (around line 75.) Save the file and then run the installer - you should be good to go.

I installed the demo from the Apple site then put in the real key I have.

No issues and while slow it handles 15mb raw files just fine.
