I'm not sure if you can just past it as an image on the desktop, but you can open up preview and past it there.

Nobody is "making up schortcuts"... if you were unaware, the Mini 9 / Mini 10v has a "Print Screen" button like any normal PC. I do not know how much PC experience you have, but taking a print screen copies the image to the clip board. What meklort did was replicate this behavior so that the "Print Screen" button on the Minis replicate the behavior of a PC.
Meklort is not trying to "make up shortcuts" to make things easier so that people do not have to learn the "proper" Mac shortcuts... he is just making the Mini transition as seamless as possible. It all makes perfect sense because now the Print Screen button is functional and does not just sit there when pressed.
I agree that the built in Mac keyboard shortcuts for screenshots are much more convenient, but it does not hurt to have alternatives for those who want to replicate the behavior of a PC. Not everyone has a lot of experience with Mac and many people are switching from PC
Just a little bit of confusion and misunderstanding I think, that is all! haha
... our MacMini's are Hackintoshes after all
