Default Super slow mac (% System using 51% or more) - 07-20-2009, 11:51 PM

My mini 9 is having a new and odd issue. It was super slow today so I thought it wasnt booting to the desktop. I booted to safe mode, reinstalled everything (1.2a) and rebooted. I was able to get to the desktop but its super slow to get there. When I was finally in I found the desktop to feel very slugish. I opened activity monitor and found that % system is using over 50%. I can't tell exactly what this means.

I made no changes to start this that I know of. I hadn't rebooted in a long time before this. One new change is the machine fell off the couch this afternoon down to carpet. I used it after that with no issues. I put it to sleep and when I went to wake it I wasnt able. That happens to me occasionally - ever since its been super slow. Help?

Edit: USB bios legacy support is disabled, so is usb wake support.

edit: Resolved by reinstalling efi 1.1 rather than 1.2a5

With other machines, your problem usually ends up being a drive issue. Have you considered verifing that the SSD is seated properly. For that matter I would also check the ram.

I'm not sure why it fixed it but I booted to safe mode and first tried installing dell efi 1.2a. No luck. I later booted into safe mode again and reinstalled the efi 1.1 files and rebooted. I found this fixed my issues.

Sometimes rebooting and reinstalling can accidentally solve a problem with overheating by allowing the machine to cool down. Everything will most likely stay healthy but it's something to keep in mind.
