Default No mouse/keyboard settings at System Preferences - 07-17-2009, 10:25 PM

Hey folks - I recently upgraded my 32GB RunCore to a 64GB RunCore on my A90 Vostro and I personally chose to just install onto the new SSD from scratch all over again ... using DELL EFI 1.2.a5, and lantzn's guide to installing OSX directly onto the RunCore using a Mac.

Everything went very well ... except for 1 small thing ... I no longer have mouse/keyboard preferences listed under System Preferences. This is a bummer ... because I want to set up tap-to-click options, etc. I'm using a bluetooth mouse now ... and the trackpad and buttons are working properly. I just can't change any settings.

The ONLY thing I did different now from the install on the 32GB RunCore was that I installed iWork and iLife before inserting the SSD in the A90. I DID have the mouse and keyboard settings on the older SSD - so 1.2.a5 worked great on that drive.

I ran 1.2.a5 again, and unchecked the DSDT file option, rebooted, then re-checked the create a DSDT file option ... rebooted ... but this didn't seem to do anything.

Anything else I can try? Thoughts?

Thanks!

Kevin

Did you check to box for "Restore to 10.5.5 keyboard preference pane (recommended)" ?
It is just under the dsdt.aml file removal/generate option.

This should fix it, if you haven't .

Hmmm ... I think perhaps I have an older version of the DELL EFI file. I'll try installing the latest 1.2.a5 again as I don't recall seeing the keyboard choice.

Thanks!

Well ... I DID see that restore keyboard pane under the dsdt.aml option and selected it. Unfortunately I still have no keyboard/mouse preference selection. Is there something else I could try? Maybe I'm not installing the DELL EFI properly?

Well, that should have put a separate entry in the System Preferences, down below the system group, labeled Other and on mine it reads PS2 Preference Pane.

I am using the DellEFI version 1.2a5

Hmmm ... the only thing that appears in the OTHER pane is my iStat menu app preference icon. No sign of keyboard / mouse preferences. Am I the only one this has ever happened to?

Maybe I need to completely uninstall and reinstall the EFI to reinstall everything properly. How does one do this?

You should also check the option to reinstall the extensions. I don't know exactly how it works, but whenever I enable something that is connected to drivers I usually select that option just in case. You could also try to use the NetbookInstaller, but I'm not sure if that will add the pane or not.

Hey, thanks for the suggestions, MD. Reinstalling the Mini 9 extensions didn't work ... so I may try the Netbook installer. How strange that this was never an issue on the 32GB SSD, but having issues on the newer, higher capacity drive. Coincidence, maybe ... frustrating ... surely. Deal breaker? No way. The keyboard, Trackpad and its buttons still work and I can still use the BT mouse. Just no access to the Preferences for same.

You could always reinstall the old SSD and do a clone to the new drive, after formating it again, of course. That is assuming you still have your previous install intact and a copy of Carbon Copy Cloner.

edit
On second thought, you would probably just end up back at the same place you are now once you re run the DELLEFI on the clone so it would boot.

Did you try an older version of DellEFI? All you do is run it, you don't need to uninstall the current version.

Maybe I'll give the older EFI a try before using the Netbook installer. What a weird issue this is!
