Smile Tutorial for 10v Mac OSX 10.5.x needed - 07-13-2009, 08:26 PM

Hi. I know a hundred of these are already existing, but I think that we all need to clear this stuff up. I'm a long time user of the forum, but had always just been an onlooker, and never participated. I would like to know every step of how to install leopard, where all the files can be downloaded from, whether or not a retail version of the OS is needed, and so on. I would very much appreicate people to say something kind or say nothing at all.

Thanks

Yes, for install instructions posted on this forum, a retail version of OS X Leopard is required. As far as a guide, I would use this one.

http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/mac-...-released.html

It has links in the thread for where to download the required files.

Mini 9 | OS X 10.6.7 | NBI 20100616212351| BIOS 05 | 32 GB Runcore | 2 GIGS RAM
10V | OS X 10.6.7 | NBI 20100616212351 |BIOS 06|160 GB|1 GIG RAM| 6 Cell Dell Battery
Functioning Hibernation

Back up Mini 9| OS X 10.6.7| NBI 20100616212351| BIOS 05 | 32 GB SuperTalent | 2 GIGS RAM

My one question is that if it is possible to do this on a pc. The reason I'm trying to do this is because my macbook broke.

There is no need for another 10v tutorial. It can be installed the exactly the same way as the MINI9 using DellEFI1.2a5 with the exception of making a change to the audio kext. Now, there is even an easier way to perform the install by using the new NetBookInstaller 0.8.1 that is stickied in this forum. BTW, you can perform the install with just a PC but you will need an external DVD-Rom.

For the Dell Mini 10v, it's been a fairly painless process so far. I'm just wrapping up my user registration and have to finish the DellEFI process, but I don't foresee any trouble with that. The difficulties that have come up so far have mostly been my own fault, since I'd like to get a multi-boot computer going.

Understand that if you do go ahead with this, the steps may not necessarily be perfectly identical if your hardware differs, which is why there isn't any single step-by-step guide. In my case, my install DVD appears to be defective, or my drive isn't 100%, so I can't install all components. What I can offer so far is that when using Darwin/x86 to boot the installer/setup, you WILL need the -x flag on a 10v. At least, I did using DellMiniBoot 8.0.1 and OS X install 10.5.1. The 10v's touchpad may be annoying in general, though.

If you're looking for a desktop, there was an MSI Wind project that I thought about trying out a few months ago. Might be worth checking into that, too.
