I decided to start debugging the STEC sleep issues so I copied my install to an external drive. After realizing what "Legacy USB Support in BIOS" was (it allows the BIOS to, among other things, boot off a USB drive...) I got the drive booted. I was curious to see if the machine would wake with the internal drive unmounted and the machine booted from an external drive. The answer is no. Further, the experiment corrupted the internal drive's EFI partition. I'm back running now, but I'd rather not repeat the experience!
So... Back to the drawing board. Probably the next thing I'll try is removing the driver for the internal drive. Hopefully that'll at a bear minimum not corrupt my drive........
