Default Mini 9 - Refurb or New - 06-27-2009, 05:08 AM

Is there a way to tell if your "new" Mini 9 (which you paid full price for) from Dell is actually a refurb?

My refurb has a sticker on the bottom saying that it is a refurb and may contain new, used, or refurbed parts. Other than that, not sure if there is any other way.

What makes you think it might be a refurb?

How long ago did you get it, Since they do not make new Mini 9s anymore? What leads you to believe that your Mini 9 may be a refurb?

shoot. Be glad you have one.

However, a sticker on the bottom will give it away.

Call Dell and ask them.

My mini actually came with its cover slightly dirty, and the battery was nearly charged. I ordered a brand new one, however!

That's it? A cover can get dirty for any number of reasons. It could have been sitting in a warehouse somewhere, in a stack with other Mini 9s. The battery thing means nothing. I have had 3 laptops delivered over the years, each with a varying degree to which the battery was charged. Anything else to make you think it wouldn't be brand new? most fo this stuff comes out of China, so nothing surprises me when something is new, and still needs a cleaning.

Default Packing Material and Refurbs - 07-01-2009, 03:21 AM

New and "previously ordered new" Minis come in smaller boxes (about the size of the netbook with recyclable cardboard packing materials. "Scratch and dent" and "certified refurbished" Minis come in slightly larger boxes, with styrofoam/plastic-like inserts.

Mine was alright. It was brand spanking new. I probably would get a refurb, but I'm always nervous about dead pixels, former owner abuse, etc.
