Default $35.00 16GB SDHC at Staples - 06-07-2009, 02:22 PM

Just a heads up: yesterday I bought a 16GB (Hewlett Packard branded) SDHC card at Staples for $35.00. Just finished loading a bunch of music on it and it's working great so far. The next cheapest card in the store was an 8GB card for the same price. Not sure if this is a national sale or if it's just my local Staples, but it's worth a looksie if you happen by one.

From HP website:
Read speedUp to 20 MB per second. Transfer rate complies with the SD Association Class 4 specification, but it might vary depending on host service.Write speedUp to 12 MB per second. Transfer rate complies with the SD Association Class 4 specification, but it might vary depending on host service.

I have one in my Mini 9, have AVI movies files on it and it runs ok for me.

That's about double the price a Class 6 typically sells for at Newegg (on sale).

Cheapest they're showing at the moment is $30.00.

This you can just walk into the store and buy. No waiting for the mailman, though you do have to pay tax, of course.

I ordered a $16GB card from eBay for $20.00. When it arrived, it didn't work. I went out looking to see if I could find a really cheap 4GB card to load up with some music for the time being. Picked up this card because it seemed cheap enough, and since I intended to fill it with music, the speed was not a huge issue.

Strange. For some reason, the same card I bought on NewEgg.com for $25.99 in Feb is now 32.99.

Prices went up, I suppose!

The price hasn't really gone up on anything. Due to all the bailouts, the value of the US dollar worldwide is down. Hence, things cost more, and also part of the reason some countries are talking about getting away from using the dollar as world currency because, hey, if we run out, we can just print more of them. Yes it sucks, since it effects every one of us. I have noticed however, that more often, the MicroSD and MicroSDHC cards are quickly becoming cheaper than their SD counterparts. Most of the time, they throw in the adapter for SD as well.

I got a class 6 16gb sdhc from Microcenter for $29.99. There is one 15 minutes from my house. I added the Hitachi microdrive filter and it works great.
