Default Lenovo's S12: First ION Netbook - 05-26-2009, 06:34 PM

Lenovo's ION-based S12 makes netbooks exciting again (update: less than $600)

If they had that in a 10 inch, I would probably sell my Mini 9 as soon as its for sale, lol

I hope Dell gets on the ION bandwagon soon

$600 and a 12" form factor? That doesn't sound too interesting. At that price and size, you might as well shop for a refurb D430 with a 1.33Ghz C2D.

What? $449 for GMA 950, $499 for Ion.

The Engadget link said "less than $600", which I translate as $599.

I didn't see any reference to the $499 pricing, unless it was in the comment section, which I usually avoid reading because the S/N ratio isn't very good there.

Lenovo IdeaPad S12: First Notebook w/NVIDIA ION | GottaBeMobile.com

It says it'll be $499 for the ION s12.

Thumbs down Ion doesn't help with Flash HD problems - 05-27-2009, 12:11 AM

Since Anandtech did benchmarking of the dual-core 330 with an Ion and found even that didn't handle Flash HD smoothly (e.g. Hulu in HD), I'm not feeling the move to Ion for the moment. Also, the Ion version isn't available until AUGUST. By then the Pineview integrated chips may be shipping at 2.0GHz with better power utilization than current Atom+support chips, so Ion may be a mute point. For all I know the Pineview systems may handle Flash HD better than an Atom N/Z series + Ion simply because of the faster CPU.

well,im the type of guy whos more worried about the GPU (look at my sig and figure it out, lol).

Im actually hoping you can play CoD4 on an ION netbook, even if its bare min settings. I can play Halo on my Mini 9 with bare min settings now, but if I remember correctly, Nvidia marketed the whole ION platform launch with "Hey,it can play CoD4 while the old Atom stuff just gives an error message"

I'm strictly looking at the s12 to replace my Dell Mini 9 with OS X on it. The new Mac Mini basically uses the Ion platform with a C2D instead of Atom. I love my Mini 9, but I have two major problems with it. The cramped keyboard and the resolution. I don't think that OS X works well with a vertical resolution less than 600. The s12 could be the next big OS X netbook.
