We're going to need a bit more information to offer useful help. At what stage of the install did you get the message? What, exactly, is the message?

There are some pretty knowledgeable people on this forum, but they'll need details to help.

Good luck!

Jeff

Unfortunately, you cannot upgrade XP to Vista. It must be a clean install. You can dual-boot, though.
Edit: My bad. I was thinking upgrade XP to Windows 7. Pls. disregard my comment that you cannot upgrade XP to Vista.

Just be aware that Vista will slow your Mini 10 down horrendously...

...

It will only slow it down if u install a vanilla version and do no tweaking but with a little research online I managed to install Vista Home Edition and I am really pleased with it, in fact I will go as far as saying that it performs just as good (if not sometime better) than XP - especially in power management. I was planning on returning the netbook till I got Vista on it and now it's staying!

I needed drivers for the:

1 - graphics card & synaptics touchpad (used the Dell Mini 12 Vista version from dell website). Synaptics touchpad only required if you want the additional feautures.
2 - Wireless - (used either the XP or vista version don't recall which from dell website).
3 - Fn keys app - (used the XP version from dell mini 10 from website)

I disabled indexing, automatic restore and aero (aero worked but made the mini grind). kept the vista basic theme and disabled all the services I did not require. On idle the CPU runs on average 10-15 percent and RAM between 550-650MB - I also have Avast AV, office 2007, slingplayer, Firefox and Chrome installed. Sleep and hypernation both work (wake up around 5 seconds and 45 secs or thereabouts respectively). I find it better to use than XP definitely.

Hope that helps.

J
