Default Mini 9 Issue - Random URL text being pasted while typing - 04-10-2009, 05:52 AM

I have my Mini 9 running Ubuntu.

The weird thing is, in the middle of typing, I'll get a URL that I previously visited pasted into the text that I'm typing in emails (in browser) or even more frequently in Pidgin.

I doubt I'm causing it by accidently hitting the trackpad or keyboard. I REALLY try to watch how I type, but it happens again and again.

I read some other users who are experiencing the same issues (with no solution), so I'm hoping that we can all put our heads together and figure this out.

If I don't get this resolved soon, I'm thinking about returning it for another one.

HELP! HELP! HELP!

Use syndaemon to suppress tapping when typing:

System -> Prefs -> Sessions
Startup Progs tab
Add
syndaemon -i 4 -d -t -K

Then Alt+Fn+S:
syndaemon -i 4 -d -t -K

So what does this exactly do?

Do i need to run these commands everytime I boot?

syndaemon suppresses accidentally tapping on the touchpad whle you're typing.

If you add it to system/prefs/sessions, then you won't need to type this every time you boot.

Thanks for the explanation. I will try this solution and see if this works.

Does anyone else have the problem that I've experienced and the solution above worked?

Any feedback is appreciated!!!

This solution doesn't work. It's NOT me accidentally touching the touchpad. Someone suggested that it might be a stuck CTRL button, but I'm not sure, since we hardly touch/use that button.

Any other ideas? Should I just call Dell and deal with technical support?

I've had this problem occasionally, too. It seems like the touchpad is generating a middle-click upon accidental contact and that causes the paste. I'm not sure how, 'cause I can't get the same thing to happen intentionally.

I tried this solution, and THIS WORKED FOR ME (on day 4)!
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1119474

I copy/pasted the solution below. PLEASE CONFIRM IF THIS WORKED FOR OTHERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE.

Thanks!

Re: Random Text Pastes when typing or clicking
I had a similar problem on a Sony Laptop with Synaptics Touchpad. I don't remember how I got there, but I added the following in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Code:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Synaptics Touchpad"
Driver "synaptics"
Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
Option "HorizScrollDelta" "0"
Option "RightEdge" "950"
Option "MaxTapTime" "225"
Option "MaxTapMove" "160"
Option "MaxDoubleTapTime" "225"
Option "SingleTapTimeout" "180"
Option "MinSpeed" "0.40"
Option "MaxSpeed" "0.90"
Option "AccelFactor" "0.0060"
Option "RTCornerButton" "0"
Option "RBCornerButton" "0"
Option "SHMConfig" "on"
EndSection

What is important is the highlighted part - it turns off the corner button functions (right-click and paste). You may have to pick the correct Driver and the Device option, as applies to your machine.
