Default OCZ introduces a DIY Netbook - 03-31-2009, 09:22 PM

Looks interesting. You basically pay for everything but the card reader, memory, HDD/SDD and OS. All of those you add yourself.

I would be interested in something like that if the price is low enough. The Mini 9's appeal to me is that it is so easy to change out parts, but if Dell insist on going the Mini 10 route with soldered on parts then this would be a great option.

That is too much! I can take a mini 9 for cheaper and swap out the parts I want to upgrade.

As a Linux enthusiast and computer upgrade enthusiast, I love the idea of a barebones laptop or netbook without a Windows license. But it seems like it's always cheaper to buy a base model laptop from Dell/HP/etc and delete Windows and sell/give away the parts being upgraded.
