Default Bluetooth and internet surfing - 02-15-2009, 09:23 AM

Moderators please move this to a more suitable location if this is not it.

I was looking to upgrade my phone to one with BT and then use it to connect to my mini-9 and surf the internet. A representative of Pocket Communications said that it was not possible because it was not wifi BT or BT wifi....something like that. Anyway I argued with him quietly for about 5-10 minutes about it saying it was possible and I already know people doing that with their phones.

My question is (drum roll please) Is it possible to connect any phone with BT to the mini-9 and surf the net as long as the phone also has internet capability?

Thanks in advance for your help in this matter.

It's a UK Mobile/Cell Phone provider.

The phone needs to support tethering or specifically a bluetooth DUN profile. Windows Mobile phones are capable as well as other phones, but you maybe limited to 2G or EVDO 1x speeds unless your phone specifically is 3g.

Thanks a bunch DanielN !!

Now all I need to do is to figure out if this phone will support tethering AND get the BT module from Dell since its not installed in my mini-9.

You may want to look into using a usb cord to attach your phone to the mini. On my HTC Titan, if I tether through bluetooth, my battery goes down fast. I use a usb cable and pdanet for windows mobile. If you want to use bluetooth, pdanet works well with bt.

What phone and who's your provider?

I'm on T-Mobile, and can tether my Blackberry for data via USB or Bluetooth, and it's supported by the carrier (don't have to pay extra.) I'm limited to EDGE speeds, which is basically slow DSL, but it's enough for web access.

I believe AT&T charges extra for tethering. Not sure about Sprint or Verizon.

Verizon charges for tethering, but if you have an unlimited data plan, pdanet fools the network into thinking you are browsing from your phone.

I can only send my broke ass phone a name card or calendar event

and kinda like Yownanymous, My mini has paired up to a phone @ McDonalds but I couldn't get to the internet or the contact list-kept asking for password- not the 0000 for pairing up I guess.
