Default RunCore 64gb SSD? - 02-10-2009, 08:40 PM

I posted this in the Beginners discussion. Just trying to get more feedback.

For those of you who already have a RunCore 64gb SSD, how much faster, noticeably, is it than the rest? I'm kinda kicking myself because I've already ordered my Mini 9 (being built and processed for shipment at the moment) and I ordered the 16gb SSD with WinXP. I was not aware that the Mini with Ubuntu offered a 64gb drive until I came across this forum last night. I had planned on wiping my drive and putting an nLited version on it anyway, possibly even experimenting with the Mac OS. I'm now telling myself I should have ordered that one, but if having a RunCore would prove to get the best speed outta my Mini, I'm thinking I should wait...maybe even until the 128gb SSD becomes available. Btw, I have already ordered and received my 2gb RAM. Any and all opinions are welcome. A lot of info here, but please refer mainly to my first question. Thanks.

If you went to the Runcore site, you would see they have a video posted by JKK Mobile showing the cloning process ( all info in a nutshell) and how much faster it will be in start-up and loading different programs. From what Ive read its all about the higher write speeds the Runcore drive offers. Id save the original drive for "just in case" emergencies and install a Runcore ASAP with your choice of OS. I would have but I have to save up for it. As far as the Runcore going to 128 gigs, its not going to happen anytime soon. Its a space limit on the SSD card size we use in the mini. Until they can manufacture higher density chips, were stuck with the 64gig as a limit.

i seem to notice an improvement in multitasking, like having firefox open and running something else at same time.

The lag isnt as bad.

Default Best prices on the RunCore 64gb SSD - 03-15-2009, 06:18 PM

If you already have a RunCore 64gb SSD, I'm curious as to how much you paid and where you ordered it from.

It looks like the best price ($219) appears to be at My Digitial Discount.com, but it's listed as both "pre-order"

http://www.mydigitaldiscount.com/Produc ... 1222915030

... and "backordered"

http://www.mydigitaldiscount.com/SPD/ru ... 564428.jsp

Conics has it "In Stock" but they want $274 for it:
http://conics.net/catalog/product_info. ... cts_id=388

Post your pricing / availability info...

Thank you.

P.S. Can I just clone my Type11 install over to the new SSD and then simply swap them?

I don't know what a "Type11 install" is, but yes, you can clone the installed SSD to the RunCore by its USB jack and then swap them.
