Default Can the mini 9 SSD mini PCIe slot be used for anything else? - 04-21-2013, 07:38 PM

Hello all!

This is probably a common question .. but can the SSD port on the mini 9 be used for anything else?

I got a dell mini 9 for free from a friend, and as you guessed the SSD was dead, but the rest of machine works well.

I have been able to boot this from USB/Linux, which is really neat. The network card works fine (but I may replace with wireless-N). I am wondering if the SSD slot can be used for another wireless, network, or sata storage controller card.

If that is not possible, then is the SSD PCIe slot useful for any other interesting kinds of mini PCIe cards?

Thanks!

No. It is not wired according to the PCIe standard, but rather custom wired for a PATA SSD that is only for the Mini 9/Vostro A90. The WiFi slot is full MiniPCIe if you want. Some people wire in a USB hub to the USB pins on the motherboard.
