Exclamation Repair installation of Windows XP fails - 01-26-2012, 09:27 PM

My PC is a Dell Dimension 2400 with Windows XP Home Edition SP3. I tried a Repair installation using the Windows XP Home Edition SP1 CD ROM because Windows would not start, but the error kept showing that "load needed DLLs for kernel".
The repair stopped unexpectedly and the dialog box asked for the asms file. It showed the path GLOBALROOT\DEVICE\CDROM0\IŁ. This entry could not be changed as the keyboard and mouse became frozen and were inoperable. Now everytime the PC is restarted the screen shows the same dialog box asking for the asms file.
Kindly advise and help with this unexpected problem, please.
Kind regards

Edcondi, welcome to the forum. However, we specialize in the Dell Mini line of netbooks (and the Streak handheld) and don't have much experience with desktop PCs. At this point, rather than a repair, I would suggest a reinstall. You will need to select a "custom" install and delete all existing partitions. You will lose all data on the system.
