Default Trying Ubuntu - 01-22-2012, 04:55 PM

I am trying out Ubuntu on a USB stick on my Dell Mini 9 laptop.
I have no wireless connection.
I download a pripotary driver & find my wireless connection.
It said when i downloaded the driver to restart.
I have to shut down & restart off the USB,but when i restart my wireless connection is gone.
Where it says Wireless it is Grayed out.
I have to redownload the driver again & also set up my wireless connection all over again.
Why won't the settings stay.
Is it because it is running off the USB stick ?
Can this problem be solved ?
Thanks for your help in advance.

It is often the case that the "Live" Linux distros that run off a USB stick don't write back changes to the disk image. Have you tried creating an ordinary text file and see if it persists?

What kind of text file are you referring to ?
What information would it need & where do i save it to ?

Testing Ubuntu from the USB flash drive does not save you new configuration. It is just a test so you can see If you like Ubuntu. If you do a an install, the broadcom driver will need to be installed but will be on your SSD & be there when you restart your Mini 9.

What I mean is that changes you make to the system are not saved, so the next time you boot from the USB it is the same as the first time. As lswartz says, if you do an install then your changes will stick.

I suggested the text file as a way to demonstrate that any changes you make to the system are discarded.
