I don't know why you think the m11x is a netbook.

That's my next purchase.(although I'll wait until they pop an i3 in one) Battery life is good, back lit keyboard is great, and I'm sure it will run OSX SL
(If I can just get it on my mini 9 I'd be set, as my Studio14z while, light, is big for flights, but the size is more like a 13" macbook air(well almost)

Anyone seen the new XPS 14? $899 US to start and powerful...

For those considering an PowerMac, I thought about it, but got SL in dualboot with Win 7 Ult x64 on my 730x(Still has an ati 4870 x 2 in it) on my home machine. I got it from Scratch & Dent, for less then $1600 with a BD-burner, and the ability to OC an i7 2.66ghz to 4Ghz on air...It smokes with 6GB DDR3 2100.. I'll upgrade the MEM & Video
The side panel, was bent, so I had a machinist friend, make me one, with a 730x cutout, that makes it more original, then any Apple Powermac. I say why pay for all that one piece, when you can buy SL for $150 and put it on up to 5, computers & netbooks in house

because of it's size. We all want portable, and powerful, everything 11" is a netbook. Just because Dell says its unlike any other netbook, does not a netbook unmake it
The Macbook air 11" is still plenty powerful for a netbook, as well!

Here's what Wired thinks about the Air 11":

Quote:
However, if you’re the type who doesn’t mind using Windows, we can’t justify purchasing the 11-inch Air versus a netbook. A netbook on average costs $300 to $500 and isn’t much worse than the Air when it comes down to what you’ll be using it for — less work, more play. An Air will cost you at least double the amount of a netbook, and unfortunately it doesn’t deliver twice the performance.

I don't want to get it into a massive debate, I've seen loads of articles for and against the claim that the M11X and the MBAir being classified as netbooks. It's just my opinion.

Re; What What was just quoted by Holmes4......
That pretty much is why im pulling away from buying the Mac11 and going to install OSX on my Mini. Im getting great help on another thread on doing it. Im not going to rush it as that may be costly. Read up a great deal on it and watched a few videos on it too. making sure i use the correct bootloader for A06 etc.....Has been a bit confusing as a lot of the help on blogs was slightly dated from when you had too downgrade BIOS. But seen my way through all of that and am getting confident im up too speed on the best way now, inc using a Sandisk cruzer as the pendrive for the image.....Hopefully i will be up and running this time next week with ÂŁ1000 saved from the Mac11....After all as you said its a NETBOOK. We dont expect to have SUPER performance from these. As you dont really need it, we just think we do........

The fact that it has a 300m series Nvidia video chip, (Although getting the intel switchable working might be harder) and Core2Duo, should make it capable to take SL. Obviously, I know all the alienware OCing from within SL won't be possible, nor FX lights working, but I might just make a program myself, that will give basic control over them. (I did for my XPS 730x) I think once a few OSX/Linux geeks get working with it, it shouldn't be impossible, as most other dell Mini's & Dell Towers run it, with kext files made.
I never forget that OS X SL, (and it's predecessors) is nothing more then a proprietary Linux Distro, and the only thing stopping full install capabilities on every computer, is the fact that We here, respect Apple for their work.(I do anyway) However, I know others have been reverse engineering, SL since its release.

Um, no, it's not. OS X is derived from BSD Unix, not Linux. That also ignores the "presentation layer" and system API that is uniquely Apple's.
