Default Rules Nazis? Why? - 01-10-2009, 04:21 AM

So, on another forum I was extolling the virtues of the Dell Mini and it's compatibility with OS X to people. During this thread on netbooks, the person asked about the various brands and their features. No one had mentioned the Mini yet, so I mentioned the price point (through Dell Outlet) and its ability to run OS X in a stable environment. The next post some dude has to throw out how it is a "hack" and in violation of Apple's terms of service!

WTH? Are you kidding me? We all purchased a license to run the software we're using on these darn things!

Anyways, I just wanted to rant .

They're just uber-paranoid that Mr. Jobs will kick in their door and mow down their server with a chaingun.

Ok, maybe not exactly but it's something like that.

Could be an Apple fanboy that's peaved that he spent $2500 on their netbook and you spend $300 on yours.. Or, it's a Windows fanboy that feels threatened by a real viable alternative to Windows.

Technically, they were correct. Apple's license terms forbid running OS X on hardware not manufactured by Apple. Take it for what it's worth.

This thread has come and gone before, but the premise of the OP is such a common theme in computer forums that it actually shocks me that this shocks you.... If that made sense.

Essentially you can blame the RIAA for all of the fears out there...
