Default Newbie Q re replacing hard drive - 06-20-2010, 05:21 PM

Ok, I just bought a 32GB SSD for my Mini 9. How do I get XP from my old HD onto it? I have replaced hard drives on other laptops before, but I have always had an external enclosure so that I can format the hard drive, or even throw an image on it if I want to. But I have no external enclosure for this one. So what do I do?

Connect a USB hard drive and use drive imaging software such as Acronis True Image (free trial available) to make an image backup. Then boot from the recovery disk (can be a USB flash drive) and restore the image to the new SSD.

This is easier if you bought an SSD with a built-in USB connector (RunCore.)
