Default Still life in the 1010, with 1.86 CPU + - 05-23-2010, 04:06 AM

While wandering around the Dell outlet site I could not help but notice that there were several 1010's listed with the Z540 1.86 CPU and also a few units listed with 2megs of memory and Vista.

I was under the impression that the 1010 was being fazed out; yet I had never seen one listed with the 1.86 CPU or 2megs of memory and Vista. Any of you guys (or girls) in the know as to the fate of the 1010. Now maybe these units had been around before and I just never noticed.

Kind of makes me wish I had waited a year until I got a mini. Of course the price of these little gems; with the 1.86 or 2megs and Vista was a bit on the high side. Is the 1010 making a comeback?????????????????; fdalbor

That is interesting. I am checking the Outlet now. The cheapest with a 1.86 GHz Z540 now is $559, and none have 2 GB or RAM. That Z540 CPU has VT-x according to the Intel website:
IntelĀ® Atom? Processor Z540 (512K Cache, 1.86 GHz, 533 MHz FSB) with SPEC Code(s) SLB2M

If you want 2 GB of ram instead, the cheapest is $419 and comes with the Z530 cpu.

My guess is that these are just options that very few people ordered and that's why they have them sitting around. The cheapest mini 1010 models start at $259, so it's hard to justify the price difference.

I am looking at the manual that came with my 1010 when I bought it a little over a year ago and it does list the 1.86 processor and the fact that you could get 2GB of ram.

I never did see it listed on the options when you configured a new unit though. But I can understand what you are saying that it is possible they had them on hand in case someone DID order the 1.86 processor or the 2 GB of ram.

Can't help but wonder how a 1010 would perform with those two options; but you are right again the price is a bit on the steep side. It is possible that they are getting ready to phase out the 1010 and they are trying to unload these high priced option units before the fire sale starts. Knock off a couple of hundred and I would be interested in one; even though I already have a 1010. fdalbor

yeah, put me on that list too, I wouldnt mind a 1.86 processor and 2gb either, although I would probably just take that stuff out and put it into the Mini 1010 I already have, cause it has every other option already in it, but I already paid $425 for what I have $498 with the tax and overnight shipping and with the other $550, I would be looking at a $1000 Mini 10...even I think thats a little too much....

PS. I hope Dell decides to sell just the daughter board...both the processor and the RAM are on the same board so it wouldnt be too bad of an upgrade, I would consider paying another $250 or so for the board
