Default mini 1011 vs mini 1012 (just a comparison) - 01-14-2010, 08:20 PM

So, I've been recently thinking...and I've narrowed it down to either the 10v or the 1012. I have $484.92 to spend. lol

the 10v runs OS X and I know there are tons of guides on how to upgrade it.

the 1012 has the newer processor (and I read somewhere it gets better battery life too, like 8 hours with the 6-cell instead of 5-6 like the 10v). It also has (eventually) the crystal HD chip. OS X probably doesn't work (yet).

I would be using the netbook for websurfing, playing simple games (ie. Audiosurf, Peggle, maybe some other ones) and possibly playing movies. I don't have very many in HD format, I just want to watch my 700MB .avi files

I like the idea of having OS X on it, because I would like to learn Mac, as right now I only have experience with Windows, and Ubuntu.

I bough mine (1012) to do exactly like you. I found a Windows 7 WMC friendly IR remote (ARC-1100) and ordered VGA to SVideo cables on Ebay for $1.50. With my WiFi and media collection on my WD MyBook World (My Book World Edition 1 TB Hard Drives ( WDH1NC10000 )), I'll be having lots of fun.

Don't get your hopes up on the VGA to S-Video cable. This requires that the VGA connector have the S-Video signal sent to it, and so far, none of the Dell Minis do. The 1012 might be different, but I'm skeptical.

I think I'm mainly waiting for the upgrades to be available on Dell.com so that I can price out a new Mini 1012 to see if I can afford what I want. lol
