Default Memory in Mini 9 - 12-12-2008, 10:12 PM

Well, I just received my MINI yesterday. It came with the Windows OS.
I immediately installed Ubuntu 8.10 via wubi last night.

So, it now appears that I have used up nearly all of the 16GB internal storage (14.28GB Total; 3.71GB Free).

So, I,ll be buying some flash SD to have more memory. But, I,m confused.

When I made a USB thumb "live" stick of Ubuntu 8.1, it barely needed a bit over 1GB.

But now in the wubi set up, it appears nearly all of my 16GB drive is gone/used.

What did I do wrong?? Or, is the the normal deal with a wubi install?

Jeff

If I remember correctly, a Wubi install adds Ubuntu to your system, but all the Windows files are still there, in case you change your mind.

The wubi website claims the install needs 5GB.

So, it it uses 5 and I have 3+ left, almost 8GB must be used by the Windows XP OS and the junk add-on software (although I believe I have removed all of that). That sure seems high to me.

16GB storage
- 5GB wubi ubuntu 8.10
- 4GB free
7-8GB used by Windows???

whewwwwwweeeee !

That's possible.

I have about 4GB free on my 16GB SSD, but I loaded Windows XP Pro from scratch (no nLite, full install), Office 2007 Pro and a few other programs, and have a 2GB hibernation partition.

My MINI came with the Windows XP Home OS. So, I don't know if that's nLite or the full enchelada.
