Question Runcore 64GB SSD...what's the dif? - 09-19-2009, 06:41 AM

I've been searching for 64 GB SSD for the mini 9 I don't yet possess (on order) and the best price is on back order. Meanwhile, I have come across two 64GB for Dell Mini 9 on the same site, different price (and higher than the original one I was considering). So now it appears there are two different versions?

64GB RunCore Pro 50mm PATA Mini PCIe Solid State Drive SSD for Dell Mini 9
64GB SSD upgrade for Dell Mini 9 PC. Manufactured by RunCore and suitable for replace the factory-supplied SSD storage unit. Transfer rates up to 78MB/sec and 44MB/sec (read/write) $230.40

64GB RunCore Pro IV 50mm T-Style PCI-e PATA Solid State Drive for Dell Mini 9

64GB 50mm T-Style SSD for the Dell Inspiron Mini 9.Offering improved performance compared to the pre-installed SSD. Transfer rates up to 81MB/sec (read) and 62MB/sec (write) $247.68

These are from this website
SSD Solid State Disks; IDE, SATA, SATA II & ExpressCard/34

This is the least expensive I have found, and I have seen links to or mentions of this site in other posts here. But it is on back-order, and apparently has been since before Aug. 19th, when the shipment was expected.

So...what is the difference between the two types? Any recommendations?

The T-style card is bigger so you can't have a WWAN card in the Mini 9:

From memoryc.com:

"Note: Due to the T-style design, Dell Inspiron Mini 9 users will need an open WWAN slot in their PC so the RunCore SSD can occupy part of the adjoining space. Please purchase accordingly. "

Also, the T-style card is faster, as I understand it, as it can provide more "channels" to memory.

OK, now my true ignorance will show. What is a WWAN card?

Cellular wireless networking card - allows you to access the Internet through your cellphone service provider (extra fees usually apply). WWAN = Wireless Wide Area Network, as compared to WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) or WiFi.

Hmmm, I don't access through Verizon, and I don't intend to....but who knows what I'll decide down the line, I suppose I should be safe and leave room just in case. Thanks for clearing it all up for me, Steve and Robpow.
