yo Tylwith,
First of all, the "Khaoslauncher" that I found starts with a "c" (chaoslauncher version 0.5.3)
The zip contains a Trojan Virus... And, It doesn't work.
Where exactly did you find the version that worked for you? This info could be potentially helpful. Also: I was told to do this previously, ( @blizzard Forums ) that time as well, it didn't work.

I'm going to try your device manager disable method, hopefully it'll work. seems sketchy.

I do have the legit StarcraftBroodwar game I bought online ( downloaded from blizzard ) Tis the version that doesn't require a CD to play.
Maybe chaoslauncher works only with the original starcraft and not broodwar?

you sure got my hopes up...
Anyway you could post a video of your netbook running SC?

ptdmini,
I tried to disable method and it did not work for starcraft. The error message is "not implemented 640 x 480 256 color mode" which makes sense since I cannot get directx to switch to 640 x 480 at 256 colors at all.

So any game that cannot play at 16 or 32 bit color will fail to run.

However chaos loader uses directdraw in the current resolution hence starcraft DOES run when launched with the loader. I have taken a video and as you can see, I use ONLY the windowed mod and NO HACKS at all.

If anyone is playing and want a pro partner, send me a msg on MSN, I play on uswest and useast.

Hi all,

my bad the launcher for starcraft is indeed chaoslauncher with "ch"and not "k", i have edited my previous post.

I checked you can run stracraft if you reboot in safe mode which means that it must run by disabling the graphic card
so i checked with the gma 500 disabled and i had indeed the scaling error
To get rid of it i just right click properties/compatibility and checked run in 640x480 screen resolution and run in 256 color mode

and here we go Starcraft running full screen

with Chaoslauncher to return to normal sized windows after having doubled it just use ALT+f9 during the game

Hello All,
i will explain to you the proper/clean way of enabling/disabling your graphic card using the microsoft way. The following manipulation is for windows xp but it must be quite similar under vista ( i don't have a vista nearby so i can not test)

We are going to create a custom hardware profile which will have the graphic card disabled. The main advantage is that you will have a menu to select if we want to launch windows with the driver enabled or not. So no need to go back to the hardware list to enable/disable the graphic card.

So let's go.

-Right click on my computer
-select properties
-Select Hardware tab
-click on hardware profiles
you will see a window with only one profile called Profile 1(current)
-click on profile 1(current)
-click on copy
-choose a name for the profile let's call it DirectDrawGames
-Click ok
-Restart your computer

When you restart you will see a menu with profile 1 and DirectDrawGames
-select the DirectDrawGames ( you only have 30s to chose !!!)
-Hit enter
Windows will now boot and you will see you desktop as usual. It's normal because we have copied the default profile
-Disable your intel gma 500( Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Display Adapters > Disable Intel GMA 500)
Windows will prompt for reboot
-Reboot
-Select DirectDrawGames again

and you're done.

now each time you will reboot you can choose profile 1 = the normal profile or DirectDrawGames = the profile with your gma 500 disabled.
if you don't chose any it will boot using the first profile in the list for us Profile 1(the normal profile)

Have fun

Tylwith

This does not work with 11.1007 drivers.

I think the GMA500 may not support 256 color directdraw output.

i am using 11.1007 too
but the driver version is irrelevant here because when you have disabled the gma 500 in the hardware list the computer is using the basic windows driver.
to make Starcraft work
i just ticked the use 256 color mode and use 640x480 in the compatibility option menu with the gma 500 disabled

Yeah buddy. Thanks bro. All good in the hood now.
I think I prefer window mode to fullscreen with starcraft, I can skype and surf da net in the backround.
