Default Spore - 11-10-2008, 09:39 PM

Okay, my Mini9 laptop is due to be returned to me tomorrow and I would LOVE to try and get Spore working on it.

I have a legitimately purchased PC DVD version. On my computer installed it takes 3.77GB of data. I might try and install it onto the SD card.

I do not have an external CD/DVD drive so would like to know what everyone else would recommend me to do to get the game working.

Will post results after trying it out!

All help appreciated.

EDIT: I am also aware that there is that streaming software which allows low-spec machines to stream games/applications from another computer but I would prefer to have Spore with me and available at all times.

I doubt a new game like that will play on it.

But to install it,if you have a network at your house, you can share a DVD drive of another computer across the network

Okay guys and girls I am compiling my Spore Disc into an ISO image now.

Next steps:
  • 1) Copy to my 8GB MP3 Player *
    2) Mount with Daemon Tools *
    3) Install the game using legal CD key onto SD card *
    4) Install any updates - * - Patching took about an hour, the game freezing quite often but did patch in the end
    5) Run the game, hope it works *
    6) Post results here! *

* = Completed

In Creature Creator mode right now, plays fine without lag.
Lowest settings, of course but I'd wait and see how it plays at later stages

What I've found thus far:
Installation will require a lot of patience, at least an hour including patches.

Cell Stage works pretty flawlessly, a little bit of slowdown from time to time
Creature and Tribal phase play pretty well
Yet to try civilization or space stages, will update this post as necessary.

All in all the game is very playable on the lowest settings.
Hope it's been helpful.

I've been waiting for this thread for a long time. lol My favorite stage is the space stage,so I am curious how that would run since it can be pretty taxing on my other computer. Thanks for the info! I might have to do this sometime this week.

You may like to note I am running the default Windows Set-up with 2GB of RAM.

As I can only update how well the game plays by how far I am myself, I'm afraid posting info on how well the Space Stage will run may take a little time...

Glad to know some others might try Spore out, too.

Just reached Civilization Stage - A little more lag than previous stages, but still very playable.

Also today it seemed like the tribal stage was a lot smoother playing for some reason

Note: If the game was particularly laggy I would probably have stopped playing by now and I am pretty picky.

Also even though there is much going on in Civilization mode I feel the Mini's screen is about big enough to be able to handle all that is going on at once. Not too small at all.

Mine did on the first attempt too...but now it works flawlessly. I didn't install any patches on my copy of the game either.
