They only cover fairly new games, but System Requirements lab run a site that just by downloading a small plugin, will tell you wether your system passes the minimum and/or recommended system requirements for a particular game!

There are no Steam games on there which annoys me a bit, but I think that may be because Steam mentions if you won't be able to run a game? Or perhaps there was just some beef :P
