Lightbulb N64 Emulator working on Mini 9 - 12-01-2008, 12:58 PM

I have just managed to get project 64 running on my mini 9!!

Runs golden eye(one of the most demanding n64 games) perfectly, sound jitters slightly when running on battery, but on AC is runs superb.

Project 64 says 60fps in the meter, and i can see it is deffo 60fps, very fast. even when theres alot of movement on screen,

On another note, i also have winfellow running (amiga emulator) without hitch.

I'm chuffed

I also run Project 64, often using the Xbox360 USB Wired controller and it works fantastically.

Can't quite get the control scheme of Goldeneye to work well for me - could you provide a screenshot of your setup?

I'm now using ZSNES, too. All in all it's a very good retro-gaming device, particularly due to the smaller sized screen so it doesn't require higher resolutions to look as good.

hmmm i have tried both project64 (under wine) and mupen64 (linux native) with no luck...
with mupen64 the game plays for about 30sec -1min before it crashes. with project64 i cant even play a rom.

what video plugin are you using? did you use any sort of guide? i would love to get this running.

thanks

I think you may be having an issue with Wine or Linux - I've run Project64 on the Mini9 on XP and now Windows 7 without any problems. Didn't have to use any particular video plugins, it worked right away.

I just got my Mini 9, and while I haven't upgraded it yet, (I'm still on 4gb SSD and 512 RAMM), I tried running Project 64 and it runs games at about half speed with lots of audio skipping. Even my NES emulator (Nestopia) has problems running...
If Nestopia is minimized, it takes up ~%25 of CPU, and sounds like it runs fine. If I bring it to focus, though, it takes up %50 CPU and starts skipping like mad.

However, all of these problems go away if I run the program in full-screen mode. On other computers it never matters, but probably because of the Mini's computing power....or maybe because of the Aero-imitating theme I have installed (On my Windows XP).

Project 64: Requires full screen mode
Nestopia: Requires full screen mode
VisualBoyAdvance: DOES NOT require full screen mode
No$gba Emulator: runs slow when rendering 3D-- and full screen mode is not possible with this program. Lowering sound sample rate or disabling sound gets it running from %50 to %65 normal speed. Unless, there is a full screen option and I I just haven't looked hard enough. Seems to run perfectly when only rendering 2D, or very little 3D.

Do any other Mini users have problems running emulators while NOT in full-screen mode?

Project64 runs very well for me under Windows 7, but only if I don't have it full screen! ZSNES and VisualBoyAdvance both seem to work smoothly as well.
