Default Anybody run Return To Castle Wolfenstein on Mini? - 07-25-2009, 02:14 AM

Just curious. I would like to load this, but I figured I'd ask first to save time.

I still remember that game. The last level was so difficult that I could only win with cheat mode on. hehe

The portable version runs really well on medium settings in full screen mode. It's an old game engine that the mini deals with very well. I imagine that the normal version will also run well. I've been playing it a lot on the train recently. Cracking game.

Hurray! That's the news I was hoping for! I'll have to load it up.

I tried it.

Was not pleased at all.

After a cold boot and ran the game it would sit around 20 FPS, but after about 2 minutes or so it dropped down to around 10 FPS, yes everything was on as low as possible.

on mini 9

I wonder if it has anything to do with trying it on OSX, it wasn't an emulation, it was made for OSX too so.. I wonder how much better it runs in XP

-Dell Mini 9 - Refurb $269: Obsidian Black, 32GB STEC SSD, 8GB Kingston SDHC (left from previous owner), 2GB 667Mhz RAM, 1.3MP Camera, Bluetooth, Mac OSX 10.5.7
-Dell e1705 - New $1055: ATi X1400 OC/ed 175% faster, XPS 1710 Heatsinks, XPS 1710 Body
e1705 is old, it needs not to be upgraded, but rather be replaced.

Strange to hear that. I played through half of the first level and it ran flawlessly on low/medium settings. The only problem I did encounter was previous cfg settings that were incompatible with the Mini. I just deleted the .cfg file. ;-)

OSX isn't really great for gaming, I'm using an nLited XP SP3.

That game rocked in its time. I wouldn't mind installing RTCW ET and doing some online FPS action. Also I wonder how America Mcgee's Alice will run.

Well, like I've said to others before, the Mini is a great retro gaming system if you're willing to spend the time NO CD cracking or finding portable, smaller versions of games. I frequently run many classic arcade/emulator consoles on her and she handles them like a dream. I've gotten in trouble at work on my break for distracting others. ;-)

I was running RTCW on Windows 7 with all settings at medium and it ran around 22-28 FPS depending on the action on screen. It's on the lower limit of playability but still entertaining.
