Default HELP - all I get is beeps after 2GB upgrade - 06-07-2009, 04:09 PM

So I tried to upgrade my Mini 10v to 2GB following the service manual - it was a pain but it went OK - I used a 2GB stick that works in my Mini 9. However when I reassembled and pressed the power button, the white LED came on but nothing on the screen and I just got some beeps! I couldn't find any reference guide to the Mini 10v beeps. I am going to try and put back the original memory just in case.

- Simon.

More than likely the RAM you replaced isn't fully inserted or it may be defective...

Well I replaced the original 1GB of ram (removing the system board gets easier with practice!) and it now works fine again - so definitely an issue with the 2GB stick. This ram works fine in my Mini 9 - in fact I have just put it back in to check. I noticed that there was a yellow label with "Rev A02" on the memory socket. Can anyone else with a UK model confirm they have successfully upgraded to 2GB? I have another 2GB stick on order in case there is some compatibility issue. I hope my Mini 10v hasn't been restricted to 1GB!

I have a similar issue with my ram but i live in the US.

My ram works in another laptop and has been noted to work by other members.

Mine may be going back if it continues.

Thanks - good to know I'm not the only one! If you manage to get it working with another memory stick please let me know - I have a third stick which I will be trying shortly. I have some friends with Mini 10v's on order so I will see if I can upgrade theirs to 2GB instead.

Just realised I had bios v A00 on my machine. I've upgraded to A02 but haven't found any notes to see if the upgrade corrected any ram issues.

It shouldn't make a difference. When I did the upgrade the first time, I was running A00. Didn't upgrade the BIOS until after I had already upgraded the RAM.

I had upgraded to A02 before I tried to upgrade the RAM so it sounds like the BIOS version doesn't affect the compatibility.

Man, that is a bummer. Maybe the mobo is bad. Did you try running the diagnostics.

I just noticed a new A03 BIOS was released today. It speaks of 3G but maybe it tweaks other things.

Which diagnostics do you mean? I can't boot with 2GB of memory so do you mean run diagnostics with the working 1GB memory?
