Default Will Inspiron 1010 (Mini10) run OS X? (Answer: no) - 02-11-2009, 05:32 PM

Don't answer that. You probably cannot. If it is a Z series Atom as everything I read suggested, it cannot.

The Intel GMA 500 graphics are not compatible with OS X anyway. Same problem with the Mini 12. Basically, when people get the Mini 12 running it, the 10 will as well.

The key point here I believe, which doesn't often get mentioned, is that Apple themselves support the GMA 950 chipset because it's the graphics processor in all Mac Minis, older MacBooks and some older iMacs. So driver support is built in to OS X.

That's why it runs so well on the Mini 9.

Apple have never made any hardware with the GMA500 graphics processor - therefore it would mean porting or writing an entirely new driver for OS X to make it work. Potentially a very difficult and complex task.

The GPU is soldered to the board and can't be removed. And the processor has no problem with running OS X (as long as it has SSE2, it can run it)

SSE2 is an instruction set and part of CPU. It was introduced by Intel with the original Pentium 4 processors. There's nothing to install, it's already part of the Atom.

You can't install OS X because no driver supports exists for GMA 500. Either write the drivers or buy a Mini 9 (or, gasp, a real Mac)

The integrated Graphics card for the Mini 10 v is a "Intel® 945GSE UMA Graphics Media Accelerator" ... NOT a incompatibel (for MAC OS X) "Integrierter Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 500"

The Mini 10 and the Mini 10v are different animals. Dell should have named them differently, but be that as it may..

The jury is still out on the 10v. In theory it will, but we won't know until we see it in the wild.
