ElliotForceLegacyRTC.kext is included mostly for the boot maker and for machines that don't have a DSDT patch. There is no reason not to have it, it doesn't do any harm. It's especially useful if the dsdt didn't get generated correctly (and as I said before, for the usb drive).

SMBIOS.plist isn't used, I don't feel like modifying chameleon so that only certain values are overridden instead of all of them. NBI also uses the system model to determine what needs to be installed for each machine, using the SMBIOS plist overrides this (yes, I could, and do, have chameleon storing the machine's model, but It's easier this way). There also isn't any reason to impersonate a macbook / macbook air.

Some people, including myself, have issues with VoodooPower. It's safer for most users if it's not included. The ones that want it can install it to /Extra/AdditionalExtensions.

R850: As previously mentioned, NetbookInstaller is generally version agnostic as far as running it on an already working machine. In other words, you don't have to reinstall, just keep running the latest version right on top of the old one.

Supposedly (I'm skeptical), on a MacbookAir, the Apple DVDPlayer software in Snow Leopard will run without an internal/external DVD drive present. As it is, it will not run on a Mini 10v (giving an error on startup).

[EDIT - I'm not as skeptical anymore. See humph's new post here: is there any way to make os x believe it is running on a macbook air?. If this can be done in smbios.plist using NBI, then there is value in it.]

Installed 0.8.4pre tonight on my 10v and everything seems good. I was previously running 0.8.3.

One thing that was weird is that I got no sound at first but after a few restarts its working again

Actualy its just done it again with the no sound. Seems a bit hit and miss on my machine.

Would it be ok to run NBI again to see if this solves the problem?

Default Getting a new 10V Ready to Roll . . . - 03-17-2010, 04:49 PM

I'm putting together another 10V over the weekend. I have one question that may already be answered, but I would like to have it addressed directly. Is it necessary for me to erase and restore OSX to my thumb drive stick before I run NBBM 0.8.4p, or can I just "recondition" my present stick and run 0.8.4p over 0.8.3f?

Or might it just be best to skip the 0.8.4p NBBM and install with 0.8.3f and then finish the install with NBI 0.8.4p?

Thanks for the help, not just this time, but for all the other times, too.

I have a Wake Kernel issue on a 10v. F8 takes me to my dual boot choice screen, then it shows "boot " plus whatever I type at the bottom-left ("-x", wake=no, etc.), but after hitting enter, I still end up getting stuck in the Wake Kernel (see error message below).

Is there a way to make it do a proper restart so I can just go back and run NBI 0.8.3 again?

Here are more details :
- Mini 10v, A06
- 10.6.1
- NBI 0.8.3 was fine for months, including sleep/wake and VGA
- yesterday I somehow had VGA trouble (stripes), so I tried NBI 0.8.4pre
- the weird part : the first dozen sleep/wakes yesterday were slow, but fine

Now it hangs up and says
" header read size 200
meme_base 77e30e00

Wake Kernel! "

I'm trying my best not to start a new thread on this, but I'm not sure if people will see this. THANKS.

my problem is that my 10v comes up as unsupported, i've tried 0.8.4pre, 0.8.3 final, 0.8.3 RC5. with no luck, I have done a couple restarts and nothing.

edit: I ran my install disk and re-ran NBI 0.8.3 and it ran fine. then I ran 0.8.4pre and that upgrade went fine, I may be having the sound issues some people are having too.

Also little side-problem, I am having problems with an external display, I think I have mirroring on and I get messed up lines on both the 10v and external display when connected via VGA. I have saw some one on this forum running their 10v as their main computer on an external display and it seemed to run at a better resolution than 1024x600 which is the maximum I am able to put out when I had it running a few months ago.

Sounds like a definate bug then drew. Wonder if its worth us rolling back to 0.8.3? Is that even possible?

I noticed that after a few restarts that the sound issue is about every other restart.

also i'm not too sure but the lizard application used for adding a theme to chameleon isn't working and takes me to a text based boot menu instead.
