But I would be willing to bet that it won't. Sony of all companies goes out of their way to make their stuff incompatible with the rest of the world.

Ethically, I would encourage you to buy an additional license. The Snow Leopard End User License Agreement stipulates that 1) you install the upgrade on only one machine per license 2) that the machine be built be Apple 3) that the machine already have a legal copy of Leopard on it. If your Macbook was running Tiger, the EULA requires you to buy a "full" non-upgrade license that costs $169. We obviously can't obey (2) with a hackintosh. (3) seems a bit insane for a device that only costs $300 or less, and even Apple has made no attempt to enforce it with their installer, which will install with no problem on a Tiger system. But in order to maintain some vestige of ethics, an additional $29 for a new DVD seems worth it.

| Junior Member Posts: 3 Join Date: Feb 2010 | I tried the mini10v hackintosh. I've reached the point almost at the end of the process, where it says "installation successful" (for Snow Leopard) on the 10v. When it re-starts, however, the Dell logo comes up briefly, followed by a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left-hand corner. This seems like it will last indefinitely (I've let it last a couple of hours). When I restart, the same thing happens, although I'm able to use the F2 function at the Dell start-up. I tried the whole process again from the very beginning, and the same thing happened a second time. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Any suggestions? Thank you! |

I'm assuming here that you built your installation USB with NetBookMaker 0.8.3 alpha, the latest version. Restart your 10v with the Snow Leopard (SL) USB inserted, and boot to the SL installer. Once it loads to the first installer window, select your language and then go to the next step. From the Utilities menu at the top of the screen, select "NetBookInstaller" (NBI). When NBI loads, select your internal hard drive as the target and run it with the following options selected: -install Chameleon -install 10v extensions -disable hibernate -regenerate DSDT.aml You can also choose: -enable quiet boot (if you don't intend to multi-boot) -enable remote CD -enable bluetooth (if you have a BT module installed) Run NBI. It will take several minutes. After that, go to the apple menu and exit the installer. Remove the USB stick and reboot. See if that fixes it. -virusdoc

Yes, I used the latest version of NetBookBootmaker. The BIOS is A06, but I gather that shouldn't be a problem. Also, if I boot from the USB and go to start-up disk in the disk utilities, it doesn't list the HD as an option (only network). I don't know enough about these things to know if this means there's a problem. |
