As neither of us have access to Mac computers, just PC's, it looks as if we will therefore have to use MechDrews guide, rather than your excellent one!

Something to leave until I have a bit more time at the weekend though, I think!
Mechdrew's guide is flawless, just a little less detailed than I like. I was targeting an audience that is new to disk partitioning and OS installs, so my guide is written in "verbose" mode!

Enjoy your hackintosh once it is built. My 10v runs Snow Leopard better than my Macbook Air, and even smoother and faster than Windows 7 runs on the same hardware.

Default Thank You!! - 01-21-2010, 04:28 PM

Virusdoc & Montala, Thank you both for your comments and clarifications!!
I just ordered my 10v last night so hopefully I will be Hacintoshing soon!!

Virusdoc I have 2 questions:
1. How does the 10v run on 1gig of ram? Necessary to upgrade?
2. I read something that Snow Leopard 10.6.2 has issues with the Atom Processor and that we shouldnt update to that, can youprovide any clarification on that? Articles Below

Tick,

1. My Snow Leopard install seems to run fine with 1 GB RAM. I think the processor and hard disk rpm are more significant drags on performance. No matter how much RAM you have, this won't be a gaming machine.

2. The 10.6.2 bug is fixed by the latest release of NetbookInstaller, 0.8.3 alpha. As long as you use that release, you'll be fine. I am running 10.6.2 now.

VirusDoc,
As always thanks for the clarification!

This may have been asked already but if I get my hands on a MAC is it possible to do dual booting with Windows XP (which is what is coming on my 10v) or should I upgrade to Windows 7 and follow your guide?

Thanks Again!

I'm pretty sure it won't work. Windows XP cannot boot from a GUID partition table (gpt), but Mac OS absolutely requires gpt. Windows 7 can boot from gpt.

But I might be wrong and there may be some smart person who found a way around this. Try searching the "Dual Booting" forum here.

EDIT: a quick google found this blog entry from a person who claims to have done this. Can't vouch for whether or not it works, and the entry is a bit dated:

I was wrong about XP/snow leopard being impossible. The Snow Leopard installer will TELL you that it is impossible to install on a master boot record (MBR) partition table (which is what XP uses). But in reality, SL will install and boot just fine from MBR--you just have to trick it into doing it.

More information here:

XP and Snow Leopard

Good luck!
