I just reported that it showed 2200mAh under Ubuntu and after a few minutes they are sending me a new one. The only bug was she noted if the new battery didn't show a higher value I should update to the new BIOS. I reminded them of this thread and that to be sure I wouldn't get another defective battery and she indicated the request would be escalated. Time on chat: 10 minutes... They haven't shoplifted anything, even if your battery has only 3 cells. Shoplifting, like all words, has a specific meaning and this isn't it. In any case, your battery almost certainly has precisely the correct number of cells in it, regardless of the reported capacity (try reading the OP's follow up). It may be that your battery is defective, but that is a) not shoplifting by Dell sales (or anyone else), b) not any other form of theft, c) not caused by the lack of a cell, and d) fixed by correctly and calmly reporting it to Dell support and getting it replaced. The person who started the hoorah posted time results that show the so-called "defective" battery lasting longer than the so-called "higher capacity" battery. Here's a link to that message that basically says, "Never mind!" http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/batt...10.html#p13788 Sheesh, people. This is not cause for hysteria. If it's a problem, there's ample time to get it corrected. It may simply be a problem with the way the software READS the battery info, not a problem with the battery itself. Anyone who believes that the battery will last exactly as long as Dell advertises is pretty naive. Cars don't get the advertised mileage, and the same car will get different mileage under different driving conditions. Your battery may last 3.5 hours one day and 5 hours the next, depending on what you are doing. |
